Instructions

Task 1:
  • Students are required to perform a self-evaluation and reflection based on their mobile application design final project.
  • This project is aimed at documenting the issues, problems, and difficulties and proposing solutions to improve the mobile app design.
  • Students are required to submit the documentation in Google Docs for ease of commenting and feedback by the module coordinator.

Lecture

WEEK 1: Module Introduction

During the first week of class, Mr. Razif explained the weekly activities and assignments for the semester. He also asked each student in the class what app design they liked and why. He collected all of our personal information and guided us through registering for FlutterFlow Education accounts.

In addition, the first assignment was to review our previously completed app prototypes to see if there were any areas for improvement or whether we should be given the opportunity to design a new app ourselves.

WEEK 2: Analyzing and Redesigning Boarding Passes Through User Experience Principles

This week, our task was to analyze examples of good and bad user experience design. In groups formed according to our seating arrangement, we were assigned to redesign a sample boarding pass. The task required us to first identify the target audience and then list all the information presented on the original boarding pass. During the redesign process, we had to ensure that all essential details were included while prioritizing the information that passengers would consider most important and presenting it in a clear and accessible way.

Through this exercise, I primarily learned the concept of designing with the target audience in mind. I gained a deeper understanding of how layout, visual hierarchy, and clarity directly impact the user experience, especially in time-sensitive scenarios like air travel, where key information needs to be clearly conveyed. I also gained practical experience identifying usability issues and applying design principles to solve real-world problems.

Then, I had a presentation with my team members about our redesigned AirAsia boarding pass and the concept behind our redesign.

WEEK 3: Understanding Common Mobile APP

This week in App Design 2, I continued developing my app concept and refining the user interface. I focused on improving visual hierarchy, consistency, and usability. I explored how layout, fonts, and color can guide user attention and make interactions more fluid. Then, we explored user flow in class. My group and I chose to create a wire flow of making a booking at trip.com. We explained and illustrated all of the processes within Trip.com.

Task 1

Students must reflect on their Application Design 1 final project by identifying key issues and proposing improvements to the app’s aesthetics and user flow. The aim is to demonstrate how design evolves through iteration and problem-solving.

Requirements:
Submit a self-reflection blog post:
Must clearly compare the old vs new design
Should document the refining process

Submissions:
Online blog post in your e-portfolio.
Presentation video explaining your improvements and reasoning.

Before beginning this assignment, I will first review the work I have already completed in App Design 1.

Duolingo Pro App

Description:
Duolingo Pro is a language learning app specifically for business use. Unlike the standard Duolingo app, it features more business-specific content and vocabulary, allowing you to learn about the language, social culture, and official language vocabulary, drawing on the experiences and lessons of those who have worked with you.

Target audience:
Designed for users who have a continuous need for language learning, helping them improve their language proficiency.

Feedback

Week 1:

Mr. Razif noted the critical role of self-assessment in the design process and reminded us that AI tools like UXLab Assistant should be viewed as an aid to fostering critical thinking and personal reflection, rather than as a complete dependency or replacement for them.
